Loch Insh Watersports founded in 1969 by Clive and Sally Freshwater has continued over the last 40 years to provide family holidays, school and group activity holidays. National Governing Body training courses to instructor level are available in skiing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and first aid.
Duncan, Andrew and Jonathan are involved in the development & delivery of our activities for groups and schools up to instructor level in both winter sports and water-sports. They put together and oversee the implementation of these programs from recruitment to delivery. They have had a lifetime involvement in all the sports offered at Loch Insh and a good idea of what will work and what hasn’t worked in the past!
Our schools and group activities are broken down into three types - a short, a long or a full day activity and are colour coded as such. This will depend on the package you have chosen, what you can fit into the day, whether you want to get wet or stay dry and if you are doing sessions in the day or in the evening. The normal day consists of one long session and three short sessions which are split between dry and wet activities. Otherwise you tell us what you want to do and we will make up a custom day to suit your needs. Read on to see a brief description of what’ is covered in these group taster sessions.
Here at Loch Insh we have so many activities than you can’t fit them all into a week! .
As you can see there’s heaps of options! We know its quite difficult to decide what to choose for your week. That’s why we have created four readymade packages that the vast majority of our groups choose year after year..
Continue to our readymade packages that show a plan for a week’s activities. Groups are split into a maximum of 12 persons per group. For activities like sailing, where the NGB (National Governing Body) guidelines recommend a smaller ratio, the group will be split again into the appropriate ratio of instructors to children..
The more popular activities make up the longer sessions.. We know which ones they are!.
The wet and dry activities are spread throughout your stay, not too much of each, always finishing on a dry note for the bus journey home!.
Sorry we don’t provide hairdryers!
We teach complimentary activities in a certain order (weather permitting).
However, if you want something really special then use our plan to choose the activities you wish to take part in and send an e-mail to our office and we’ll do our best to accommodate you..
Loch Insh Watersports is an AALA Recognized Training Centre (Adventure Activity Licensing Authority) also an RYA & BASI training centre and can deliver BCU certified courses for paddle sports. We work to the standards set by these governing bodies, or ALAA, whichever is relevant to the group or area we are operating in. Instructors are fully trained and carry radios and mobile phones which keep them in contact with base at all times. (Used mainly, though not exclusively, for the offsite activities of walking and biking.)
All instructional staff and many non-instructional staff are qualified first aiders.
Extensive risk assessments are in place. Six rescue boats are always on standby when the beach is open and when in use are in constant radio contact with the beach base.
All our instructors know every inch of the loch and surrounding forest. They know where the safety areas we use are should the conditions change.
