Went to Loch Insh in summer time. Was lovely. Saw osprey nests with young in them. Can hire boats of all makes and canoes, you can even bring your own. We had a great time with our canoe and even took a bottle of wine with us and some food so we could stop half way down the river to eat. It is great for kids of all ages to play in the water and is totally safe. A great day out for the family. It will surprise you. We had a great time and recommend it. They also have a restaurant if you want to eat there or have a pint.

Enjoy a leisurely cruise and spot the native wildlife

Our wildlife boat trip tours Loch Insh and sections of the Insh Marshes and River Spey. the trip will take place on a 28ft long passenger boat Molaise The boat has 12 seats and large glass windows and travels at 2-3 mph around the loch and downriver. The trip lasts 1 hour and sailings are daily at 11am, 2pm, 4pm, (6pm in July and August) Seats must be prebooked by phoning ahead of time to guarantee a place. A highlight is getting close to our resident Ospreys on the back of the island this takes place towards the end of the trip.

Whilst you are on board there is an audio commentary which includes:

  • Some basic emergency procedures.
  • Some of the history of the area and in particular the story of the floating of logs.
  • The ship building industry at the mouth of the Spey
  • The RSPB involvement with Insh Marshes and Loch Insh.
  • The wildlife you are likely to see on the way

The Audio commentary is supplemented by our knowledgeable and experienced skippers who are happy to answer any questions you may have.

The wildlife boat tour is well complemented with our loch side nature walk that also starts at Loch Insh Watersports Centre. you can enjoy exploring the area further before or after your trip. Maps for this and the paths network that our loch side trail links in with are available for purchase in the on site gift shop “the Bosuns Locker.”
